Blogfest: Genre Favourites

Alex J Cavanaugh is hosting another Blogfest Today
Genre Favourites Blogfest, September 17, 2012
One Blogfest, four favourites!
List your favourite genre of:
           Movie            Music             Books
And a guilty pleasure genre
from any of the three categories!

Here's my entry, now posted in the correct month (blush!) after a blogger glitch last month,
hence the first commenters comments.
Okay this is a toughie as I love my films, music and novels, but I love many different genres.

Music. I love Classical especially Bach and Mozart. I love harp, cello and brass instruments best. I also love what I'll refer to as the Bach and Mozarts of the Pop world, such as Queen whose range and talent is awesome. Songs I can sing along with on the tenor register.

Books I am very much drawn to literary fiction/ realistic fiction mainly written by women.
While I love Sci-Fi films, I don't tend to enjoy the general writing style of Sci-Fi fiction novels. I also enjoy Children's books and YA. The author whose entire works I have enjoyed every one of would be Andrea Levy.
Films I love so many genres it is hard to choose: Costume Dramas, Sci-Fi, Action thrillers where one person is outwitting the many
FreeDigitalImages.Net                        and the occasional romance.

Guilty pleasure genre would likely be real life accounts in novels and films of those who have won out over adversity, such as Rabbit Proof Fence.
Oh and About A Boy I can watch over and over and still enjoy.

How about you?

  3. I like the cello and realistic fiction also. My tastes are so varied that this is going to be a difficult blog fest for me to nail down

  4. LOL I guess I now know what is going to fill the blogosphere tomorrow. As you can tell, I'm not participating. Awesome idea.

Looks like Aldrea thinks it's still August. I wish!

I love action thrillers, as long as there's substance to the plot, and it's not just about blowing things up.

  5. Thanks everyone.
Apols that I originally posted tis up a month early because I didn't preschedule properly. It is now posted up for the correct deadline ;O)

  7. Hi, Madeleine,
I have one book by Levy, but haven't got far with it yet. Haven't listened to a lot of classical music. Need to put my post together.

  8. I love the cello. I keep trying to convince one of my kids to learn it but one wants the drums, the other gymnastics.

I'm not familiar with Andrea Levy. I'll have to look them up.

  9. Can the real life movies be like Rudy? Very inspirational movie. I met him many years ago - quite the character.

  10. LOL, I do that scheduling snafu thing with my blog posts all the time.

Great post! It's cool to see what you like!

  11. It's awesome to see what you like. Great post.

I love thrillers and romance, in movies and books.

  12. I've never done much sci fi reading. It doesn't appeal to me much, but I should try it to see what I think.

  13. I'm a huge fan of classical music, too. Great choices!

  14. Now here's a woman after my own heart! Love and agree with almost all your choices!

  15. I always have difficulty choosing favorites as well. My tastes are also eclectic, making it even more difficult.
    Enjoyed your choices!

  17. Great choices. Science fiction is my chosen genre for movies and books. There are some science fiction authors I don't like - normally what I'd call hard science authors. I prefer those that leave a lot up to the readers imagination.

  18. I am so terribly behind on all these blogfests. I'm missing them all. Glad to catch a glimpse into your favorites, though. :)

  19. Interesting choices, and like you, my tastes are all over the place. Depending on my mood, I love just about any kind of music, except rap. The most important thing to me about books and movies is how well they engage me, regardless of genre. And if they catch me by surprise, all that much better. Fun post.

  20. I adore literary fiction too, you never quite know where a story is going to take you - absolutely no formula in sight!

  21. Great answers! I loved the movie Rabbit Proof Fence, so sad, but very good!!

  22. Yah, I'm pretty diverse in films, too. But I like classical as well and one band I like for complexity is Kansas. Not exactly tenor for ya but they really do some great, complex symphonic stuff.

  23. I SO LOVE stringed instruments and classical music. One of my favorite CDs is harps and flutes of the Baroque era. Just lovely.

About a boy is an AMAZING film.

  24. Children's books are great. I love reading them, even as an adult.

  25. Interesting you like science fiction movies more than books.
Thanks for participating in my blogfest!

  26. Interesting list! Nice taste in music.

  27. Yay for YA books!! (My favorite genre) Nice to meet you! :)

  28. Nice list. I like action thrillers too. Heavy on the action. :)

  29. Hi, Madeleine. If you visit my post you will see that I talk about rock music. However, when writing, I find that I have to listen to music without lyrics, and that's where I end up listening to Classical Music. If not writing, I'm more drawn toward the big action scores, but use sweet soothing pieces for writing and drowning out the noisy teenagers. Lol!
Oh, and we are huge Queen fans in my house, too.

  30. Ah yes, some good classical music definitely fits the mood at times:)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I always look forward to a good action movie. I loved About A Boy as well. :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I love classical music too. I also love Medieval music and even wrote a long post about it on my old Angelfire site. That was one of the posts I was able to save after my entire site was deleted without warning.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm definitely a sci fi movie lover too! So many great ones out there...recently, I really loved Inception.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm with you with the books Maddy and Rabbit Proof Fence. Awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  35. The mere fact that you had your blog post ready a month in advance scares me a little. haha. ;) I am just never that organised!

Nice answers Madeleine :) I don't think you should be guilty over your guilty pleasure though, that's very impressive if it's the dorkiest you get.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I also love classical music!
I remember watching Rabbit Proof Fence on TV a while back... with Molly, Gracie & Daisy... triumph over adversity in real-life situations always makes for a good movie/book!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hehehe I didn't mention it because people would just be confused, but I adore classical music. Even as a child. Love Mozart and Beethoven, and then Tchaikovski, Dvorak, Verdi and Bizet. Oh and Vivaldi. ^_^

  38. Okay, this is just plain eerie. I have a daughter named Madeleine, my last name is Bach (my husband is very distantly related), and I love, love, love (and write) women's fiction. Loved your answers!

    I'm #173.

  39. I'm also a sucker for costume dramas.

  40. Just dropping by from the Genre Blogfest. ENjoyed reading your answers. I have to agree with you Sci Fi novels often read strange, but every once in a while you come across a good one. :)

  41. I'll look up Andrea Levy.

It was immensely interesting to see people's picks for this blogfest.

  42. Interesting guilty pleasure; no guilt necessary! I need to look up Andrea Levy. Thanks for the recommendation.
